But this is a problem question for me. The carbine is Auto-Ordnance/IBM/NPM. So which do I choose????

With a mutt like that, well lets face it. It can't be an auto-ordnance as they only made receivers so it's an IBM or a NPM. Your choice Jim.

One of my best is a mutt. Maybe because I mistreat it. I'm thinking one day, I might break it and throw it away, but it keeps on trying.

Ok Tuna...It won't let me vote. I tried to go with NPM, but it won't register my vote.

Best of my shooters: #1 My NPM with Marlin barrel, #2 would be a IBM, 3rd a QHMC..... Still gentle on them. They are all very close.
To Beat On, My Only other shooter I use is a S'G' Blue Sky BA barrel that eats a M2 round... but still surprisingly accurate considering the muzzle wear.

Target pic from S'G'Blue Sky:

Yup just goes to show your wife sure can shoot so don't get her mad at you Charlie. It does so how a worn barrel can still provide accuracy in a carbine. Good pictures too.

Tuna,
She is a very good shot if given the chance with something not as worn out.
I shot the targets above. A friend and former employee found this carbine near St. Louis and brought it up to me for $250. Purchased from a young guy on a job site. I bought sight unseen with just some questions asked.
These targets were it's first outing. It was one of those shaky, never could control my breathing type outings.
Experimenting with the hold and adjusting the sight as I fired. Got it dialed in pretty well, well enough to know when right after 'The Squeeze' when I'd just sent a flyer down range.
Too much coffee.... maybe.
This S'G' has it's original BA barrel, most of the rest complete (IIRC) mixer.
First carbine I've ever shot with a Cast hammer. Pretty hard trigger pull with a gritty feel.
Even though I keep it cleaned and lubed.
Might swap the Cast hammer out and swap or polish the sear lightly in hopes of better results.

Surely others out there can vote and share their thoughts........
Who's next ?

The Inland is my the shooter/walkabout that gets the most use. My Kids and grandkid all expect to inherit it. But My personal fav is the Rockola. Over the years I've got 90% of the parts correct on this, my baby.

No particular manufacture. The USGI Carbine I like best is the one that is in the best physical shape, shoots most accurately with the sites properly aligned and runs 100% with proper mags and ammo.

About the only qualifier remains that the various spring tube type receivers are NOT used as a M2 Donor gun receiver. All Oregon State Laws, US Code Laws And BATFE Rules And Regulations apply.

It is an old war expedient platform. Before use a detail strip and inspection is conducted. Many gages used. Mix masters are fine. I am a shooter and not a collector. Visual finish is not important.

I find all of it very fun and relaxing. :)
