My quick guide-

Go here:
You must be logged in to see this link.

Select F 7CR (5310.16) from the list on the lower right side.

Add it to your list and type in your information. They will mail you the form for free.

When you receive the form follow the directions and fill it out. The most difficult part is figuring out who your Chief Law Enforcement Officer is and getting the Police Dept. address for the form. Just mail it to them with your $30 fee and they'll send you a license in 2 months or so. Then you can order guns online.

David;

Thanks again for the link. I just sent off for the application. How long does it usually take for the application to be mailed out? Are these three items your first buy? Thanks.

Never mind about the time span for the application to be mailed out. I read part of the info that WarBaby's link offered. I went ahead and printed out all of the info. Very good. Thanks to both of you fellas.

Regards.
Stan

I applied on 20 July, thought the Atlanta district office. They took the money out of my account on 25 Jul. I am still waiting. Do you know of a e-mail or phone number you can use to call for the status of the application??? I haven't been able to find one.

Congrats, now all you have to do is make 20 copies of your license, sign the copies, and mail out a copy to every business you want to buy from. After waiting 2 months for your license it's amazing how long those 3 or 4 days are that it takes for everyone to receive a copy of your license.

Just remember, you have to actually sign the copies, you can't just sign the original and copy it. They also don't accept copies via fax for FFL03's anymore, just for FFL01's.

David, WarBaby;

Just to let you fellas know, I emailed my request for a C&R license at 2:33 am on the 15. In today's mail, the 18th, I received my applications. WOW, that was quick, and all the way from Springfield VA. On the request form, they asked how many to send, well I put down 5. I only got 2. A small note inside said the order was reduced because of HQ guidelines. Anyway, I got it. YYAAAAHHOOOOO. . Now to fill it out and then wait.

Regards.

You don't need 5 copies of the request form, one is sufficient (two if you make a mistake on the first one). You need to make photo-copies of the actual license once you get it. Make sure you do not sign the original copy of your license! You need to sign the photo-copies you make of your license. Companies will not accept your license as valid if the signature is a photo-copy and not written in real ink. That is why you make copies of the unsigned original and then sign only the copies.

David;

I agree, I only asked for the five copies thinking of any mistakes I am sure to make, and one each for my two sons, and a friend. But, i'm happy with what I got so i'll just have to be careful and try to make do with one.

Regards.

My son just requested his form. Up until recently you could download the form from the web and mail it off. I think they've regionalized it now to make things quicker. I've had it take 3 months to finally get mine - the first one was a nighmare of lost forms, etc. The first renewal wasn't much better but the last two renewals have been a snap.

I recently received my C&R FFL.

After my initial phone contact with the ATF office in VA, and being transfered between GA and VA 3 times, I received my application forms a week later.

Upon completion of forms and dropping off a written copy to my CLEO, it took exactly 2 weeks (from the date I mailed it) to receive the FFL.

About 2 weeks later, I received another BIG package from the ATF containing the laws and weapons available via a C&R FFL.

Bottom line...well worth the steps involved. Will renew in 3 years.

I've had my C&R ever since I surrendered my reg FFL to the Clintonista regime. If you're serious about buying old or military guns , it's well worth it. Several companies also give you dealer pricing. Mine has paid for itself many times over at gun auctions as I don't have to sit thru the line , fill out paperwork , pay fees , buy the mandatory trigger lock , etc.

Beware , it's also a license to spend money!
