Hi Guys & Gals! (are there gals in here?)

I am looking at an IBM barrel (no date). I was wondering what the
"P Proof" on the barrel meant? I am thinking about purchasing the barrel for my IBM manufactured carbine, serial number 3,914,195.
Right now I have a really nice Inland Barrel on my M1 carbine with a date of January 1944, which does not jive with my carbine's manufacture date of somewhere between 7/43-11/43, but close!

Am I going wrong here? I kind of wanted an IBM barrel on this IBM manufactured carbine, but I also don't want to be historically inaccurate!

Thanks In Advance For Your Input!

Connolly

Historical accuracy is a matter of perspective. The Inland barrel is a replacement, but is historically correct since it was done by the military. An IBM barrel would be a replacement barrel put on by you, not by the military and so really would not be truly correct. It would however be representative of what the carbine was originally manufactured with. So what you decide is really your call. Personally, I'd see how it shoots, then make my decision. It is always going to be a rebuild since it is impossible to find the original barrel. I'd leave it alone and keep it just as the military upgraded it.

The P on any carbine barrel means it was proof fired. Your serial number dates to about February 1944. If you do change barrels the IBM barrel without a date would be appropriate for your serial number.
