I have Saginaw S G, # 34178xx with an undated Saginaw barrel.

Does anyone have information on the production date of this carbine?

It is a recent century import (supposedly ex-Israeli) and is a typical post-war rebuild with a mix of parts, all of WWII era production. It is one of 4 I received, the others were a Rock-Ola, Quality HMC and Standard Products. All the others were mid to late 43 production carbines with original barrels. The stocks were well-used WWII stocks with original faint manufacturer markings but seem to have no rebuild stamps. The metal ranges from good to very good after cleaning with no pitting or rust. The bores are bright.

Saginaw SG 3358xxx w/ Underwood 12/43 barrel. Barrel must be a replacement as it has a MW=0 and I don't think Saginaw originally used Underwood barrels. However, there seem to be alot of Underwood barrels on SG carbines listed here so maybe it is correct?

Also have Saginaw S'G' 1860xxx w/ IBM 11/43 barrel. I believe that IBM shipped 4,500 barrels to Saginaw.

These were both CMP carbines.HTH

Does an Inland with an SG receiver count? 837XXX with underwood 3-44 barrel. Came in an I-cut stock (picture in CMP forum)

I have a SG 3.27 carbine which has an undated barrel marked saginaw s.g.div general motors. I believe this is a "bring back" gun that has not been reworked or restored.

In my opinion, I think 3.297 million SG with the 2/44 Underwood barrel, is a replacement barrel.

Just discovered this site.

Usually hang out at CMP, Jouster, etc.

I have an IP sn- 1773110 with a 3-43 Rockola barrel.
Also an S'G' sn- 3591793 with a 9-43 Buffalo Arms barrel.
And an SG sn- 3268898 with an undated Saginaw SG barrel
All three from CMP.

I've just lately aquired a Sagianaw that at this point I'm leaning towards calling a SG, but serial# 3249056 is in the S'G' block from all the info I've been able to find. In the Restoration forum, jimb16 say's he would probably go with SG.
Any other suggestions on what this is are welcomed. Still working on pic's.

Desert Dan, when the serial # of your carbine is compared to several listed on page 164 in Larry Ruth's War Baby! it appears that jimb 16 correct and you could have a very early Saginaw S.G.. Does your carbine have a Saginaw barrel?

Hi ArmyBrat,
Yes, as a matter of fact it has an undated barrel marked S.G., with a type 1 front sight marked N; which my chart shows as being used only by Saginaw S'G' prior to the 3,250,000 S# range. It's a hair puller!
