Hello all and Happy New Year!
Finally able to nail down a new to me plainfield carbine after lurking here for several months. After a good cleaning and lubing it has so far proven to be a reliable shooter and I'm very pleased with the rifle.
I already have a query going in the reloading section as I reload several pistol cartridges and anticipate doing the same for the carbine.

Welcome....Plainfields are/were the best commercial carbines made. Does your serial number begin with a letter?

Thanks for the welcome. After reading around this forum and knowing I did not want a USGI issue rifle as I intend to do a fair amount of shooting with it, the general consensus here was to get a Plainfield as a close second to USGI and thats exactly what I did. No letter prefix on the serial number just straight numbers 76XXX so mid seventies I would guess. If the info I got was correct and I believe it is, I am the third owner, the original owner was a friend of the man I bought it from. It seems to have been well treated but was pretty grungy in the hidden areas as if the rifle had never or rarely been disassembled and fully cleaned. I solved that problem right off the bat.
