hello, new guy to m1 carbines. i have an inland '42 receiver and other assorted mfg's parts on my recent purchase. i stripped it and cleaned and oiled it and then i took it to the range and ran one 15 round mag and all was well. i began the second 30 rd mag and i think it slam fired a 2 round burst after a few rounds, and after a few more rounds it got jammed. The slide popped out of the groove in the receiver moved forward of the bolt, and got jammed in front of the bolt with the bolt still attempting to extract a spent cartridge. could this be a worn out slide, or more of a problem with it being a worn out receiver? all opinions from this fine group of experts is appreciated. thanks, ron

Hi Ron and welcome to the forum from New Mexico!

For the slam fire, check the firing pin to make sure it floats freely in the bolt. If it's damaged and tight or stuck or bent or even very dirty it could cause the slam fire. A life threatening out-of-battery discharge could occur if this is the case. This is not supposed to happen with the built in safety mechanisms in USGI carbines but just check it anyway. Also, there's an outside chance that protruding primers in your ammo could be contributing to this. Check this also. You can never be too safe!

For the slide, see if you can manually force the rear of the slide out of the track when the slide is NOT aligned with the disassembly notch. If so the slide is probably worn out or possibly bent. It would be unusual for the receiver to be so worn because it's harder and there is just more metal to wear. If you end up having to replace the slide I recommend a later Type 5 or 6.

I hope you figure this out before you attempt to fire it again.

Also check barrel alignment to the receiver. The index mark on the bottom of the receiver should be aligned with the index mark on the bottom of the berrel.
