When I bought my QHMC carbine, supposedly originally sold by the CMP back in 2008, I knew that it had since been messed with by a previous owner. It had an obvious fake flip site that the seller admitted to adding. It also has a checkered safety that I question. The seller offered to send me the CMP paperwork implying that it would help the value. I said "fine" but I still only paid for what I saw and did not consider the CMP pedigree. To my surprise, I did finally get a CMP certificate for this rifle.

My question is, how can a CMP certificate really continue to boost the value of a carbine after it has shipped to the original buyer? It's not like buying a "certified" rare coin that is sealed in plastic and has anti-counterfeiting holograms and such.

To some the idea of CMP is like the Holy Grail for a USGI rifle. To others it means nothing to them. To each their own as to ideas and thoughts. Might help in the future if you should ever sell it as it does help prove it was not an import.
