Hi, I just bought a Saginaw G.S. that appears to be in factory new unissued condition. I posted photos in the general discussion section if you are interested in seeing them. I should have posted them here but am new to the forum and goofed up. I would appreciate advise about what to do with the stock damage and would also be interested in a production date or period. The serial number is 3545731. Also the wood is very dry. Should I wipe it with BLO or something else? Thanks, Richard

I WOULD TRY STEAMING THE DAMAGED AREA BEFORE OILING. It might raise the grain a lot and reduce the visible damage. When you do oil it, cut the linseed oil with a thinner, 50/50. It will help the oil to penetrate more deeply.

Thanks for the suggestion. What do you thin the linseed oil with?
