Tomorrow I'm taking a closer look at a Rock-Ola with a serial number in the 6.2 million range. On the surface, it is a good-looking carbine and it appears correct for its issue date execpt it has a Type III barrel band.

What is the approximate range in value for a carbine such as this, keeping in mind it is late issue?

It may be a late production carbine but a type 3 barrel band is a good indicator that it went through a rebuild. Till you can see the parts inside the trigger housing to be sure they are all proper time frame Rock-Ola parts I would wait to claim that the carbine is original. Once you can determine that the parts are correct then the value would increase to about $1200 or more in my area but be sure the Rock-Ola front sight was used after the barrel band was installed. Remember the proper barrel band will need to be found for it too. A rebuilt Rock-Ola in my area is in the $900 range depending on over all condition.

Tuna,

Thanks for the all good information, as usual! I took a closer look at the carbine today and I still have a few questions. The carbine has an adjustable, stamped rear sight (I.R.Co.) that is staked through the dovetail in two places. There is also a third punch mark about 1/16" away from the edge of the bevel on the left side. Do these marks indicate at what point the sight may have been replaced, or could this have been done at the factory? According to Ruth, this type sight was original issue on carbines of this vintage.

With the exception of the barrel band and possibly the rear sight, all else appears correct.

If the stake marking that is away from the sight looks like a chisel marking then it may be an indicator that it had originally a they 1 flip sight, But pictures would be best to see to say just what it may be. An adjustable rear sight as yours very well could be original to your carbine. But pictures would sure help.

My old eyes failed me and the sight is actually marked with an H in a shield. I appreciate any comments on the staking. Here are some photos.

I think your sight is a replacement done during a rebuild. I feel your original rear sight was a type 1 flip sight and I say that as it appears that there are a couple of chisel stake marks in the dove tail which were used with the type 1 rear sight. But there is no way to know for sure as the sight on it is one used towards the end of production by Rock-Ola.
