This thread is solely for prayers, remembrance, and to show support for our brave young men and women deployed overseas. Have a prayer request, story involving our troops, etc. - post it here. God bless them!

I want to send my thanks and prayers to all of the service Men & Women serving our country.
When my grandson was shot in Iraq he was sent to Germany then to Bethesda Naval Medical Center. I flew to BNMC to be with my grandson and while there I met the greatest people I have ever met. First the wounded Marines who was not going to let their medical problems stop them from getting well and returning to duty. Second the staff at BNMC has to be the best in the world from the Privates to the Command Sargent Major (who I was able to spent some time talking to) they are the best.
I was in the Army '65-'71 & VN '68-'69 and am very proud of the service men I served with but after being at BNMC and meeting the wounded Marines and the Naval staff there I think they are the best anybody could ever hope for to serve our country. I am not taking anything away from the other service men & women I am sure they are just the same as the Marines & Naval staff I saw at BNMC.
I want to thank all Service Men & Women & their families.

CR.

I'm with you Charlie. This is gonna be a wonderful thread. I do not know of any other gun forum that does this. One more reason this is already the best gun forum on the internet. Lets not be bashful. If you have a request for a loved one, post it. We will respond. A lot of us here share the same values toward God & country.

I am a member of Soldier's Angels and support our troops in the struggle in the Middle East. A very worthwhile organization. My present troop is coming home this week and will spend the 4th of July with my family. I am thankful that he is coming back safe.

There are several military support groups where soldiers can be sponsored and supported. I belong to Soldier's Angel and Adoptasoldier. When you join you are given the name and address of a soldier serving in the Middle East. You can write to them and send them goodies. They appreciate whatever contact with the world that they can get. Sometimes you don't hear back from them, sometimes you hear back from them when they get back incountry and sometimes they keep up an ongoing conversation with email. Here is one of the addresses:

My father served on the USS Torsk during WW II. It is really amazing how much he and millions of other Americans sacrificed for all of us. Just like so many young Americans are sacrificing for us now. Though I do not agree with the policies of our current administration I am 100% behind the troops. Their love for us should only be surpassed by our love for them. My father no longer sails the oceans but remains in my thoughts and heart just like all the fine young men and women of our military. God Bless Them All.

You should be very proud of your Dad. The greatest generation sacrificed so much for the freedoms we have today. We could never repay them except in gratitude and the promise they will never be forgotten. Glad to hear he was a Navy man.

Thanks for the info on Soldier's Angels. I signed up today, and "adopted" a soldier. Got a new son today. I also sent the link to almost everyone in my address book. I know of at least one who adopted today, hopefully many more will do the same.

I hope everyone remembers to take a moment and think about our troops abroad fighting for our freedoms today, Independence Day. Without them, we wouldn't be able to continually celebrate our independence year after year.

Recently, a very dear friend of mine and former part time boss received his commendations from WW2. He was awarded the purple heart and bronze star along with other campaign ribbons. He served as part of the famed Black Devils in the European theater. A true hero.

Mike, If your dad served on a Pig boat during WWII he is a braver man then I am. I love the Ocean, But I like being on top, NOT under. It took a rear person to do that. I almost joined the navy, rather than the Air force, but being on a ship for months with only a bunch of men as company was not my cup of tea. And to be cooped up, under the water is not me.
I am a certified Scuba Diver and do not mind being under the water but not in a tin can and I can come up when I went to.

I'd like to share this link I took from the "Ask Each Other" forum, posted by "adirondack" on the CMP Forums. There are quite a few video clips to watch, all are very moving. I hope each of you will take some time to watch and say a prayer for those still in harms way. May God Bless them all.
