It is extremely rare that one of my local gun stores or pawn shops has an M1 carbine. I can remember only one that got my interest. But then a few weeks ago, a LGS called to ask if I could help them price some military guns that came with an estate they purchased. There were two mixmaster M1 carbines and an M1A1. I field stripped them and gave my opinion on the value. They asked if the number I placed on the paratrooper was an offer. So I walked out with it.

The gun is entirely in first run configuration, except for the adjustable rear sight. It retains high wood, dogleg hammer, even a type 1 extractor and extractor plunger. I believe the rear sight is a late-war field modification and the gun is a bring-back M1A1.

Comments are welcome.

I see that the rear sight was staked and that would be a bummer as the rest is real nice. A great one for sure. You did well.

I paid $2800 and probably could have gotten it for less. I thought it was a fair price, considering what re-builds are going for. It was only after I got it home and looked at the internal components, particularly the bolt, that I realized it was all original, except for the adjustable sight. This is the first carbine I've owned that still had the type 1 extractor and extractor plunger.

I think you got a gem at that price. Well worth the money.
