Thanks to everyone for the help and info about re finishing a stock and hand guard. Here are some pictures of how it came out with the boiled linseed oil.

It looks really good. I've added the image of the cartouche to my library of carbine images. It matches the one on my QHMC carbine very nicely.

No, mine's an earlier build, around May 1943. It has a Type I stock, but the cartouche is the same.
