Does anyone know if any saginaw carbines were fitted for scope with four holes drilled in the left of the receiver or is this something that an individual would have done just to mount a scope?

That was not done by the military. That is a civilian job.

how bad does that affect the value of carbine? overall the rifle is nice it has a buffalo arms barrel and no import marks, I have never seen this done so I am not sure what to offer for the rifle. Thank you for the help. the serial # is 35793xx

It is a major deduction. A $750 rifle drops to around $500. Its amazing just how much those little holes effect the value.

You have nothing to loose by the $400 offer and I think Jim maybe a bit high at about $500 but what do I know eh?

If it was an Inland, I'd drop it to $400, but a Saginaw should retain just a bit more value. I agree though that he has nothing to loose by making the offer.

Well, I think I did ok, I was able to get it for $300 with two magazines and two boxes of ammo and a decent german m-40 banded luftschutz helmet, I am pleased. Thank you both for your help.

Wow you did great getting all of the for $300. The carbine alone is worth that in parts if nothing else.
