Yes, as a matter of fact it has an undated barrel marked S.G., with a type 1 front sight marked N; which my chart shows as being used only by Saginaw S'G' prior to the 3,250,000 S# range. It's a hair puller!

Hi Loren,
Yes, all three. I found a .U. on the left side of the stock, so I'm pretty sure it was an Underwood Arsenal rebuild. It came with what I believe is a type V stock. Not sure about how potbellied it is, but the wood is milled out for M2 selector switch.

Your barrel should have Saginaw SG on it but no date. Will have to do some ciphering with War Baby! to figure out a date. (Hopefully someone who is quicker and better with the Saginaws will answer while I'm looking it up)

About November 1943 for your serial number. Barrel should be marked but not dated if it's a SG. Underwood barrels were dated. Some front Underwood sights were used by SG but the last shipment was 500 in August 1943 and they would most likely have been used before your carbine was made. Does your carbine have the bayonet lug barrel band and the adjustable rear sight?

Number 3557609 was made by the end of February as it waa one of those tested March 6th to the 11th 1944 at Underwood in Hartford Ct. A bit less then 31,000 carbines were made in Jan. and Feb. 1944 by Saginaw. His serial number is 56,000 before the highest test gun. So in reality it would push it back into Dec. 1943.
