Looking for all Saginaw SG,S`G` and Irwin Peterson serial numbers and barrel dates and manufacturers wanted.I am trying to compile some time of info on the Great Saginaw Saga! We know this is the worst kept info from any of the prime contractors, wish they wouldn`t share serial numbers like that.

Unfortunately the sharing of serial numbers does indeed make it difficult to gather data on these carbines. Hopefully some more folks will chime in with more information.

My Saginaw S.G. SN is 58587XX. It has an Inland barrel 1-44 and S-J stock. Probably a wartime rebuild???

Hi Loren,

Fancy meeting you here. I have an SG and an S'G'.

My SG is a Bavarian. I was just practicing taking photos for another site so here they are:

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The S'G' may surprise you as it is in a serial block not generally reported as S'G'; 36012xx. It is, however S'G'. The lighting is now poor, so I will try to take photos and post them later this weekend.

Drill Sergeant,
Anything that Saginaw did does not surprise me! You know they played poker on Friday evenings with serial number cards(got that from an inside source, haha!).Is that a picture of your SG? Wish I could come up with a Saginaw barrel for my SG.

Loren,

The complete Carbine may be seen at:

This is a great site to visit. If you have any Bavarians, get them to this site.

Correction to previous. Saginaw SG has Saginaw barrel, not Inland.

Two Saginaw serial numbers for your data base:

Saginaw SG, sn-3,405,xxx with an undated Saginaw barrel.
Saginaw S'G', sn-1,764,xxx with an Underwood barrel dated 8-43.

Hope this helps.

Greg

SMG1,
I have noticed 3 S`G` guns(including yours) have barrels ranging from 4/43,6/43 and 12/43. This can be from Saginaw and Grand Rapids swapping serial numbers around like a deck of dropped cards! I think they were really good about that.

mine is in the s.n.# range assigned to IP the receiver has the locator holes probably was a finished or partially finish receiver when SG came in. barrel dates offer a delicate time line to the mystery.

Saginaw S.G. barrel 3.6 mil range S'G' receiver. i believe this is a spring of 1944 built rifle from the clean up at the Grand Rapids plant with parts sent to the Steering Gear plant for assembly. the barrel has a short skirt

Greetings, gentlemen! New member checking in.

I own Saginaw [Saginaw] 58518xx. It has the original Saginaw barrel, but otherwise I've had to very carefully restore it to WW2 condition with all Saginaw parts.

5.858 million with 1/44 Inland Barrel

So far, that is all the info I have. It appears after the IP take over,Grand Rapids used mainly Underwood and Buffalo Arms barrels. I don`t have enough info to justify that theory but, it starts to make a little bit of understanding. I also believe the Saginaw plant used more of the free barrel program when the first started up production and used more of their own barrels in the latter stages of production.

HTH with the Saginaw Saga, keep sending in the receiver/barrel info and I keep up with the data base.

Loren

Since you don't have any in your list add the following Irwin-Pedersen marked receivers.

3213xxx 2-43 Underwood
32132xx 3-43 Underwood
3216xxx 12-42 Underwood

Thanks Brian! Got the info uploaded and it seems the first portion of production is easier to follow . The last half of production appears to be a problem with the barrel dates and serial number assignment.
