For some reason I just found this thread. You guys sure know how to make a man feel OLD. I retired after more than 22 years with the Air Force - back in November 1977...hmmm, that would be FORTY years ago!! LOL

Dang, no wonder I feel old.

I did most of my time with the Satellite Control Facility in Sunnyvale, California, working for SAFSP flying "overhead" systems. Fun job.

That's just because WE ARE! Old, that is...

The M1 Carbine has more appeal for us because it was carried by many of our fathers' generation. My son and son in law both favor ARs. It's a generational thing.

BTW — USN, 1971 - 1974. Gator Navy, aboard USS Fairfax Counry, LST-1193.

US Army '67-'70, 3rd ACR Germany '67-'68, 25th Inf RVN '68-'69, Tank Commander. After the Army I went to work for Lockheed and worked for a time across the street from the SCF in Bldg 104. Then I went into the programs that didn't exist that made those "overhead" systems both in Sunnyvale and after 1980, here in Colorado.

Basic training weapon was an M14 and so I'm drawn to that Garand based design as I currently have 2ea Garands, 2ea M1 Carbines, an M1A, and even a Mini-14 I've converted to a semi M14 look.

Yes, I have AR15s, but they aren't my favorites. I'm an old fart, having turned 70 in November and I favor the traditional Walnut and Steel rifles.
